Strain-induced spin vortex and Majorana Kramers pairs in doped topological insulators with nematic superconductivity

چکیده

Using the Ginzburg-Landau approach, we show that strain of nematic superconductor can generate a specific (nematic) vorticity. In case doped topological insulators vorticity forms spin vortex. We find two types topologically different vortices either enhance (type I) or suppress II) superconductivity far from vortex core. apply Bogoliubov--de Gennes equations to study electronic states in with vortices. type I vortex, zero-energy are localized near These be identified as Majorana Kramers pairs. II there no states. Thus, establish nontrivial connection between and fermions superconductivity.

Kramers pairs of Majorana fermions and parafermions in fractional topological insulators

We propose a scheme based on topological insulators to generate Kramers pairs of Majorana fermions or parafermions in the complete absence of magnetic fields. Our setup consists of two topological insulators whose edge states are brought close to an s-wave superconductor. The resulting proximity effect leads to an interplay between a nonlocal crossed Andreev pairing, which is dominant in the st...

Helical Majorana fermions in dx2−y2 + idxy-wave topological superconductivity of doped correlated quantum spin Hall insulators

There has been growing interest in searching for exotic self-conjugate, charge-neutral low-energy fermionic quasi-particles, known as Majorana fermions (MFs) in solid state systems. Their signatures have been proposed and potentially observed at edges of topological superconcuctors with non-trivial topological invariant in the bulk electronic band structure. Much effort have been focused on rea...

Braiding properties of Majorana Kramers pairs

We consider the braiding of Kramers pairs of Majorana bound states. We derive the most general transformation on the many-body ground state that is applied as the result of such a braiding process. The result is derived in the context of a toy model, but we will show that it has the most general form that is compatible with local and global conservation of electron parity. In accordance with ea...

Majorana modes at the ends of superconductor vortices in doped topological insulators.

Recent experiments have observed bulk superconductivity in doped topological insulators. Here we ask whether vortex Majorana zero modes, previously predicted to occur when s-wave superconductivity is induced on the surface of topological insulators, survive in these doped systems with metallic normal states. Assuming inversion symmetry, we find that they do but only below a critical doping. The...

Effect of a spin-active interface on proximity-induced superconductivity in topological insulators

We examine the effect of a spin-active interface on the symmetry of proximity-induced superconducting pairing amplitudes in topological insulators. We develop a model to investigate the leading-order contribution to the pairing amplitude considering three different kinds of spin-active interfaces: (i) those that induce spindependent scattering phases, (ii) those that flip the spin of incident e...
